BEHIND THE NUMBERS
How this calculation works
Worked example
1,000 GB at £0.01 per GB-month with a 30-day month costs £6.6667 for 20 days plus £23.3333 for the remaining 70-day minimum. Reads cost £0.40, writes £0.05, retrieval £2 and egress £5: £37.45 in total before any tax.
Example result: £37.45
Choose the correct location and class
Public-price mode selects the published hourly rate for the bucket location and storage class. A GiB is 1,024³ bytes. Keep transfer volumes in the same billing month and enter only billable usage after any confirmed allowance.
Retention and deletion
A constant-size batch accrues charges throughout its live and soft-deleted life. Nearline, Coldline and Archive have 30, 90 and 365-day minimums. Lifecycle class changes are handled separately from deletion; subsequent storage is a new batch.
Operations, retrieval and network are distinct
Read/write operation counts and hierarchical namespace affect request charges. Cold-class retrieval can be charged even where eligible same-region network transfer is free. Internet tiers account for earlier monthly usage; cross-region Google transfers use the geographic matrix.
Worked example and custom prices
The worked-example button demonstrates the detailed-input method using the quoted rates stated below. Choose Google Cloud Storage public tariffs to calculate from the current snapshot without entering those rates.
Assumptions and rounding
- One constant-size batch and one selected class; live retention is converted to24-hour days. Noncurrent versions are retained throughout the live interval.
- Prices are a dated public USD snapshot. Taxes are added only at the percentage you enter. Contract discounts and future price changes are not inferred.
- Enter billable usage after a confirmed allowance. Autoclass, Rapid and custom dual-region pairs need their own calculation.
- The detailed-input mode multiplies your own quoted rates; changing currency there does not convert prices.
Questions about this calculator
Is Nearline deletion before 30 days free?
No. The remaining minimum duration is charged; soft-deleted retention counts towards it. A lifecycle transition is treated separately.
Does free network transfer remove retrieval charges?
No. Nearline, Coldline and Archive data retrieval is charged separately.
Detailed-input method: Is the main result a monthly bill?
It is the total cost of this one batch over its entered lifetime, including any minimum-retention charge. For one month of storage without early deletion, enter your month length and a zero minimum.
Detailed-input method: Why can retrieval exceed the amount stored?
Reading the same data repeatedly can generate repeated retrieval charges. Enter total chargeable reads of data, not only the unique bytes.
Detailed-input method: Does deleting early always incur this charge?
No. Enter the actual minimum and check lifecycle or soft-delete exceptions. If your provider applies a different penalty or prevents deletion, this simple remaining-duration model does not reproduce it.
