BEHIND THE NUMBERS

How this calculation works

The fee is the payment multiplied by the percentage rate, plus the fixed fee, rounded to the nearest penny. International percentages are added before calculation. Reverse mode verifies the resulting net at whole-penny charge amounts.

Worked example

On a £100 standard domestic payment: £2.90 percentage fee + £0.30 fixed fee = £3.20. The estimated net is £96.80.

Example result: £96.80

Choose the payment type first

A card payment made without a PayPal account has a different published rate from a standard commercial payment. QR payments also change bracket at £10.01. The tool selects the relevant fixed fee as well as the percentage.

Reverse calculations and rounding

A target net of £100 requires an estimated standard domestic payment of £103.30. Its rounded £3.30 fee leaves £100.00. A payment surcharge and a product price are not the same legal or contractual question.

Assumptions and rounding

  • GBP received into a UK merchant account.
  • Standard published pricing; no negotiated service agreement.

Questions about this calculator

Does this use live PayPal account data?

No. It uses the published rate table dated above. It cannot see your account, negotiated terms or the currency conversion used by PayPal.

Why can another calculator give a different answer?

Check the receiving account country, currency, transaction type and sender region. A US percentage with a dollar fixed fee cannot simply be relabelled in pounds.
