BEHIND THE NUMBERS

How this calculation works

For amounts up to USD 100,000, take the next inclusive face-amount band in the official table. Above USD 100,000, apply the published fixed base plus marginal excess formula for the bracket and round to the nearest whole dollar.

Worked example

USD 780 + (268,500 − 100,000) × 0.00494 = USD 1,612.39, rounded under the official rule to USD 1,612.

Example result: US$1,612.00

Small policies use inclusive bands

The schedule lists face amounts up to and including each band. A value between bands therefore uses the next higher band, not a proportional interpolation. Above USD 100,000 the published bracket formulas replace that lookup.

A closing statement contains more than the basic premium

A title transaction can also involve endorsements, credits and settlement services. Keep those items separate when comparing this result with a closing statement. The calculator uses the current basic schedule only and does not decide which credits apply to your transaction.

Assumptions and rounding

  • The basic policy schedule effective 1 March 2026 applies.
  • Enter a positive face amount of no more than USD 1 billion.

Questions about this calculator

Which date’s rates are used?

The official rates effective 1 March 2026.

Why does a tiny face-amount change sometimes change the premium?

Below USD 100,000 the inclusive table bands can create a step. Above that value, whole-dollar rounding also creates steps.

Is this the full cost of closing?

No. It is only the basic title-insurance premium.
